Gas approval

Authorisation or approval ensures that installations are carried out and serviced correctly for the sake of health, safety and the environment. The legislation regulates which types of installation work require authorisation or approval – and which can be carried out without authorisation or approval.

Four work areas within the gas area require company approval by the Danish Safety Technology Authority. It is not an authorisation, but rather a permission to work within a certain gas area in which approval is required before work can be carried out.

The four approvals are:

  • Approval for initial adjustment and service on gas-fired burner systems above 135 kilowatt
  • Approval for initial adjustment and service on gas-powered motor systems
  • Approval for initial adjustment and service on gas-powered turbines
  • Approval for initial adjustment and service on installations with process equipment

Approval application and approval of the technically responsible person

Approval application must be submitted to the Danish Safety Technology Authority.
A fee of DKK 1,250 is charged per application for both the company and the technically responsible person, if a company want to setup permanently in Denmark. If a company wants to work on a temporary basis, the fee will only apply to the company and not the technically responsible person.

Requirements

Basic requirements for an approved company:

  • The company must have employed a technically responsible person and this person must have registered temporary or occasional profession work to the Danish Safety Technology Authority or must be approved as technically responsible by the Danish Safety Tech
  • The company must have an approved quality management system. This is a self-regulation system in which the company registers the carried out Works.

Temporary business

A company set up in another EU or EEA country applying for approval in a role of temporary service provider must forward information how the company:

  • ensures, during the daily work, that the work is carried out according to applicable regulations
  • makes end control of the completed installations
  • prevents errors and
  • makes improvement activities to prevent recurrence of specific errors

Information or documentation shall be in a language, which is easily understood by the Danish Safety Technology Authority.

Establishing business

A foreign company applying for authorisation or approval in preparation for working permanently in Denmark must forward its quality management system relating to work covered by the law’s section 2 and the quality management system must be approvable by the rules in the Executive Order on quality management systems for authorised companies No. 629 of 2 June 2017.The company must also forward information about status of system implementation. The quality management system and information about implementation of the system shall be submitted in a language which is easily understood by the Danish Safety Technology Authority.

The Danish Safety Technology Authority assesses whether the system can be pre-approved. The quality management system must be finally approved by a supervisory body within one year after the authorisation has been granted. At intervals not exceeding 2 years the supervisory body must continuously review whether the company uses and actually acts in accordance with its quality management system.

If a foreign company already uses a quality management system for production and end control approved by a recognised certifying body based on the joint European or national standards or a system, which is similar or substantially comparable to its purpose, the company will be able to meet the requirement of having an approved quality management system. The company must forward documentation for the quality management system for production and end control to the Danish Safety Technology Authority. The documentation shall be submitted in a language which is easily understood by the Danish Safety Technology Authority.

On this basis, the Danish Safety Technology Authority assesses whether the system can be approved .

At intervals not exceeding 2 years, the company submits documentation to the Danish Safety Technology Authority that the quality management system has been implemented. The documentation shall be in the form of verification reports from a recognised certifying body or from a corresponding body or authority. The documentation shall be submitted in a language which is easily understood by the Danish Safety Technology Authority.

To be noticed before applying

The company may not be undergoing bankruptcy proceedings or be in liquidation. The company must also have postal address in an EU country or in a country with which the EU has an agreement on the practicing of legislation controlled trades.

The company owner must submit a written statement on whether he/she or the company, at any time during the last 3 years, has been convicted of infringement of legislation on the area in which authorisation is sought.
